Empowering people with cerebral palsy

The most positive outcome of a project is the participants satisfaction. In the case of the ASPACE Active Citizenship Network, 80% of people with cerebral palsy considers that their participation in the network have helped them to acquire more practical tools to improve their daily life.

Furthermore, almost 90% of the participants perceive that the issues covered within the project have met their expectations.

These are the main conclusions of the survey carried out by ASPACE Confederation to 300 people with cerebral palsy members of the network, from the 26 organizations that joined the project funded by EEA Grants. The objective was to know participants opinion about the project that started on September 2014.

The results are extremely encouraging since the objective of the project was to improve active participation of people with cerebral palsy in all aspects of daily living and that they become active agents in their own lives.

Among the most positive aspects, the participants highlight the possibility of expressing their opinion freely in all matters affecting them, and also the importance of learning new things from their peers and sharing experiences.

The project ASPACE Active Citizenship Network has also result in the publication of the guide “Active Citizenship ASPACE: Promoting participation” to foster the full participation of people with cerebral palsy in society and avoiding paternalism. A second guide will be published on April.

Sexuality, social relations, housing or leisure are the issues they would like to address in the next groups within the project.

ASPACE Active Citizenship Network is one of the projects developed within the Active Citizenship Programme, operated by NGO Platform for Social Action and funded with 4.6 million euros from the EEA Grants, aiming at strengthening the role of the NGO in our society.
