Cooperation and coordination between the six Programmes under the EEA Grants in Spain has become and added value in order to achieve the funds objectives. On this occasion, given the challenges with which the State Secretary of Culture is dealing to bring ‘Romani Lifes’ exhibition to Norway, two other Programme Operators are helping to achieve it.

‘Romani Lifes’ exhibition is one of the activities in the Bilateral Relations Plan of the EEA Grants Cultural Heritage Programme. The exhibition has been shown in different cities in Spain with great repercussion, both in public and press. Given its extraordinary potential and great objectives, the organizers decided to bring the project to a European level, enriching it with new perspectives on the Roma communities from different countries. If the cooperation between the State Secretary of Culture, the State Secretary of Social Services and Equality and the Norwegian Embassy, and the help from the Norwegian Ombud for Equality and Against Discrimination, is successful, the exhibition could take place in Oslo City Hall in September 2015. At the same time, a Roma Women Seminar will be held in the Norwegian capital, organized by the Gender Equality Programme Operator, and with the participation of donor countries.

This initiative aims to show the Roma contribution to the European culture through an exhibition which combines history, photographs, documents, objects and advanced technology. It also wants to promote debate on the status of the largest ethnic minority in Europe. As Diego Jiménez, director of the Spanish Instituto de Cultura Gitana, highlights, “Europe is also Romani”.
