The date is set for the opening of the Federico García Lorca Centre in Granada. After the meeting on 15 December of the representatives from the administrations which take part in the project (Granada City Hall, Provincial Council, Andalucía Government and central Government), which was attended also by the EEA Grants Spanish National Focal Point and Norwegian Embassy, they announced that on 5th June 2015 the centre which will keep and disseminate the immense legacy of the most universal artist from Granada will open its doors.

To the Spanish authorities contribution, we must add the financial support from Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein, who have made 4 million euros funding available within the framework of the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism 2009-2014 (EEA Grants), under the Cultural Heritage Programme, operated by the State Secretary of Culture.

García Lorca Foundation president, Laura García Lorca, pointed out that before the official opening, there will be some cultural activities related to the figure of the poet and that the inaugural exhibition with the most valuable funds will be accompanied by a comprehensive programme (theatre, music, workshops and research). Besides, Open Days will be organized.

The Federico García Lorca Centre premises contain a 4,700 m2 facility with a hall-lobby around which the life of the Centre would revolve, and exhibition hall, a theatre with capacity for 424 spectators, workshops, library –which would house the Federico García Lorca Foundation library collection- and a secure archive which would be suspended within the library area and would hold the Foundation’s collection of original manuscripts.
