General Director of the Women’s Institute and for Equal Opportunities, Carmen Plaza, was responsible for inaugurating last 18 December the first seminar of the project “Good Practices Exchange between Norway and Spain in the field of awareness and labour insertion of women victims of gender violence”, organized by the Women’s Institute and the Government Office for Gender Violence. She was accompanied by the director of the Norwegian Ombud for Equality and against Discrimination, Sunniva Orstavik, and Skarnes Mayor, Anne Mette Ovrum.

During the seminar, the Spanish delegation explained the measures carried out in order to foster socio-labour insertion of women victims of gender violence. Besides, the convention “Network of companies for a society without gender violence” was presented.

Carmen Plaza pointed out the ongoing study, in collaboration with the Spanish Government Office for Gender Violence and the Norwegian Ombud for Equality and against Discrimination, in order to analyse the legal instruments and public policies in gender based violence developed in Spain and Norway within six areas (education and prevention, health, social assistance, justice, security and employment) and in Iceland, in justice area.

Moreover, Plaza explained that the measures related to children will be considered as a transversal axis. The results of this study will be presented during the first half of 2015.

On the other hand, Plaza reports also about the Open Call to improve the assistance given to victims of gender violence by regions. Six Spanish regions were selected and they are developing their projects.

This seminar is part of the Gender Equality Programme, operated by the Women’s Institute and for Equal Opportunities, cofinanced by the European Economic Area (EEA Grants).
