Women Entrepreneurship Project

Biomedical research is also a 'women's thing'

BA in Pharmacy, Medical Doctor and with a wide experience in Biomedical Research. The objective of Patricia Rodríguez Fortúnez was very clear: to set up a biomedical consulting company. She just needed a little help to embark on entrepreneurship.

Patricia Rodriguez’s dream was to set up her own biomedical consulting company. This sector is growing because there is a continuous increase in research, and biomedical consultants play a key role in clinical trials. But actually she didn’t know how to take the first step, so she decided to take part in the project Women Entrepreneurship in Emerging Sectors promoted by Incyde and funded by the EEA Grants.

The main part of this Project is a training program based on a customized individual and one-to-one methodology so that entrepreneurs and business women can implement a business plan or consolidate and modernize the existing one, respectively. Patricia not only found training but also guidance. “They recommended that -before setting up my own business- I start working as a freelance and that I obtain the CBA Certification because there are very few biomedical auditors in Spain”. She did so and now she works as a freelance and also in the educational sector, always with a view to start her own company.  “What really surprised me is the good guidance received although biomedicine is a very specific field”, says Patricia, who qualifies her experience in this EEA Grant project as “extremely positive”. “The team was professional and very much involved. Without a doubt, I would repeat”.

The aim of this Project -in the framework of Gender Equality Programme, operated by the Secretary of State for Social Services and Equality-, is to encourage and promote women’s entrepreneurship in the priority emerging sector where women are underrepresented, boosting new growth opportunities through fostering, supporting and creating an entrepreneurial mindset in women. Apart from the Training Program, the participants have free access to the services offered by the Chamber of Commerce and also personalized support and advice. The first edition of this Project was carried out in 9 Spanish towns and 215 women took part. Incyde is already working in the second edition.
