We Exist

A different exhibition

WE EXIST is the result of the collaboration between Spanish artist Cristina Nuñez and a group of students of the Oslo Fotokunstskole working in participation with groups of male and female inmates of three Norwegian prisons: Bredtveit, Ila and Ullersmo.

The virtual exhibition We Exist follows up the project funded by the EEA Grants called "Her/Story. Two women behind the camera", in which Spanish artist Cristina Nuñez trained a group of photography students to use her method The Self-Portrait Experience® through a series of self-portrait workshops aimed to stimulate their creative process as a tool to explore their own inner self, to express their existence and to use the power of their feelings as a therapeutic strategy.

Students have also being taught how to apply the very same method on others, and put it into practice in the three Norwegian prisons with the objective of helping inmates to improve their public image by sharing their vulnerabilities and strengths.

The exhibition is an interactive experience which allows visitors to get in contact with the inmates, their stories, feelings, their present situation and their future dreams. Besides, the viewers can relate to the autobiographical projects of the students and the guest artists.

This project is part of the Programme Cultural Diversity and Cultural Exchange, operated by the Norwegian Embassy in Spain, with the objective of improving cultural dialogue and fostering European identity through cultural diversity.
