Together against Hate Speech and Hate Crime

Participate in the conference against hate in Europe

 NGO Platform of Social Action organizes on 27 November the International Conference “Together against Hate Speech and Hate Crime”, with the aim of generating mechanisms to enable civil society organizations participate in the design, creation and promotion of policies on security and justice.

The International Conference will be held on 27 November in the premises of the Ministry of Health, Social Services and Equality. NGO Platform of Social Action has organized it with the funding of the EEA Grants and the collaboration of the Ministry and the Norwegian Embassy in Spain.

Spain will be the European base for the experts in the field, due to the high level of the work carried out by Spanish NGOs and Administrations. The conference “Together against Hate Speech and Hate Crime” will be a discussion space in order to put in place new initiatives that help to prevent, raise awareness and take actions against these issues.

The Conference will bring together high-level representatives of international civil society organizations and NGOs across Europe, as well as Spanish government representatives and NGOs all active in combating hate speech and hate crime. The Platform will prepare a document summarising the conclusions reached that will be circulated among the participants and the main actors in the fight against hate crimes and hate speech.

Some of the participants will be: Elvira Tejada de la Fuente, Prosecutor of the Supreme Court Chamber; Aydan Iyigüngör, responsible for the programme in the European Union’s Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA); Fernando Grande-Marlaska, president of the Indictments Chamber of the Spanish National High Court; Rubén Urosa, General Director of the Institute for Youth in Spain; Jon Sistiaga, Reporter specialized in Research, hate crimes and armed conflicts worldwide; Patricia Cartes Andrés, Head of Global Safety Outreach and Public Policy in Twitter; Hernan Zin, War correspondent, research writer and documentary director.

Moreover, the event will also be attended by the Norwegian Ambassador in Spain, Johan Christopher Vibe, the EEA and Norway Grants Ambassador, Ingrid Schulerud; the Director of the Women’s Institute, Carmen Plaza; the president of the NGO Platform for Social Action, Juan Lara, and the Platform Executive Director, Marisa Gómez.

The Active Citizenship Programme is one of the EEA Grants programmes in Spain, operated by the NGP Platform for Social Action. The total amount is 4,6 million euros to support the sector by strengthening its capacity in policy engagement, promoting active citizenship and addressing social justice and sustainable development. The main challenges are the contribution to participatory democracy, promotion of human rights and social inclusion.

The NGO Social Action Platform is a private, non-denominational, nationwide non-profit organisation that works towards promoting the total development of social and civil rights of the most vulnerable groups and to strengthen the Third/ Social Sector. With its foundation on May 18th 2000 it consisted of sixteen NGOs and non-profit organisations. Ever since, the Platform has gradually increased its social basis with the incorporation of new members. Nowadays it consists of 26 Non-governmental organisations, federations and state networks that at the same time bring together thousands of other local, provincial and state entities.
