Open Call NILS Programme

Researching across Europe

 27 projects were selected in the last Open Call within the NILS Science and Sustainability Programme for mobility of researchers awarded in January. In all, more than 100 research projects have been funded by the EEA Grants in the current period, which have made it possible for 200 Spanish researchers continue their work with Norwegian and Icelandic partners.

Last January the last Open Call for mobility of researchers was awarded, within the EEA Grants NILS Science and Sustainability Programme operated by Universidad Complutense de Madrid. 27 projects were selected out of 43 applications, amounting to a total budget up to 200,000 euros.

Most of the selected projects are related to environment and climate change and medicine, such as a key research in the fight against blindness or a study project on ground deformations caused by volcanoes in order to contribute to future eruptions crisis management.

Adding these 27 projects, 106 university research projects have been funded within the Programme. 200 Spanish researchers have received financial support to work with teams from the most important Norwegian and Icelandic universities.

NILS Science and Sustainability Programme aims at improving and deepening academic and research cooperation among Spain, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein. For that reason, the applicants were researchers active in universities and public institutions in Spain in strategic topics related to Earth Sustainability and Human Wellbeing in cooperation with researchers in similar institutions located in the donor countries. Total budget exceeds 2.5 million euros.
