Women Entrepreneurship Project

A project for exporting talent through Internet

One of the greatest obstacles in order to set up a business is the lack of business training or guidance. To address this challenge, Carmen Palanca, a young entrepreneur in Valencia (Spain), attended the Women Entrepreneurship Project, co-financed by the EEA Grants and the experience, in her words, could not have been more positive.

Most business arises from unmet needs. Carmen Palanca, an entrepreneur from Valencia (Spain), physiotherapist, wished to re-join the labour market after spending some time taking care of her family but she found very few job offers and of poor quality. However, Spain training in physiotherapy has an established reputation around the world, so she decided to set up a business to bring together Spanish professionals and US companies where they are needed, helping them with administrative paperwork.

“Nevertheless, I hadn’t any business training or experience so I even didn’t know where to start”, explains Carmen Palanca. For that reason, she decided to participate in the Women Entrepreneurship in Emerging Sectors project, promoted by Incyde Foundation, within the Gender Equality Programme operated by the Spanish Secretary of State of Social Services and Equality and co-financed by the EEA Grants. The project provides business training and personalized tutoring with the objective to promote female entrepreneurship in priority sectors.

“My project is an online Human Resources company specialized in Health. In the training we were told that a business must be viable and sustainable so I am starting with physiotherapist and United States but the goal is to extend it to other professionals and other parts of the world”, remarks the entrepreneur.

“The experience has been extremely positive, I didn’t expect such a beneficial training and the possibility of drawing on the help of the teachers even after the closing is priceless”, points out Carmen. “Besides, sharing the experience with other women in the same situation makes us stronger”.

Women Entrepreneurship in Emerging Sectors is one of the predefined projects within the Gender Equality and Work-Life Balance Project promoted by the Spanish Secretary of State for Social Services and Equality through the Women’s Institute and for Equal Opportunities, and co-financed by the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism (EEA Grants).
