Women Entrepreneurship Project

"Carry on, women entrepreneurs, we need you"

To promote entrepreneurship is to promote economic development. Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein have understood that and they support, through the EEA Grants, a training project for female entrepreneurs promoted by the Spanish Secretary of State for Social Services and Equality.

To start a business, a good idea and lot of work is required, but also a business plan and access to funding. In order to assist in this task, the project ‘Women Entrepreneurship in Emerging Sectors' –cofinanced by the EEA Grants within the Gender Equality Programme operated by the Spanish Secretary of State for Social Services and Equality- provides training and assistance to women who want to set up a business.

The training programme, promoted by Fundación Incyde, is just starting in Madrid with 27 participants who will be trained on the different areas of a company in group sessions and individualized tutoring to guide them in their adventure.

“Companies managed by women are more resilient to the crisis and when they create employment tend to hire women”,  Carmen Plaza, Director of the Women’s Institute and for Equal Opportunities, pointed out in the Opening Session of the programme in the Madrid City Council.

Lars Andersen, Minister Counsellor of the Norwegian Embassy, highlighted that “to promote female entrepreneurship is not only for justice but also for profitability”. “Carry on, we need you”, the Norwegian representative conveyed to the women in the event.

Besides Madrid, the second edition of the ‘Women Entrepreneurship in Emerging Sectors” project is developing in ten more cities. The firs edition was held in nine cities and 215 women took part.

The project is part of the Gender Equality Programme, operated by the Spanish Secretary of State for Social Services and Equality through the Women’s Institute and for Equal Opportunities, and cofinanced with 10 million euros from the EEA Grants with the objective to close the gender gap. “This project unites the effort of Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein with the priorities of the Spanish Government”, explained Carmen Plaza.
