Project Cysnergy

Spanish Big Data for saving energy worldwide

Knowing how much electricity uses a company to produce every single one of its products. That is the energy efficiency key for Cysnergy, a company from Valencia (Spain) which, thanks to the EEA Grants, is developing a pioneer project at world scale that would allow companies to save up to 40% in their electricity bill.

For a company to save energy, first of all it is necessary to know the expenditure in energy per product. However, today, companies pay their utility bills blindly. “You receive a 800,000 euros bill and you really don’t know where you can save energy and money because the expenditure is not broken down, as in telephony”, explains Cysnergy CEO, Vicente Rodilla. This Spanish micro-SME, ready to solve this problem, has developed and patented a worldwide revolutionary product: a sensor to measure the electrical voltage and current, on the cable itself and at any point of the company’ electrical circuit. The result is that the company can receive real-time information about how much energy is consuming each machine in the factory per unit of output.

But the project financed by the EEA Grants within the Environment and Climate Change Programme, operated by CDTI, goes further. Cysnergy is also developing a powerful software that extract the measurement data and crosses it with other variable, providing all the necessary information to the company’s management at the click of a button to help them in the decision-making and optimization process. In a nutshell, Big Data for energy efficiency and cost savings. Something which was hitherto unavailable.

With this project, companies would save up to 40% in their energy bill and reduce the CO2 emissions. For example, the Valencia Institute of Modern Art, Cysnergy customer, has reduced its electricity consumption by 63% in five years, even increasing the number of visitors.

“Our product has two facets: energy saving and industrial safety because the sensors also keep track of temperatures and provide a warning before it is too late”, explains Vicente Rodilla.

The potential customers are not only electricity-consuming companies but also the electrical companies themselves. Cysnergy have observed that thanks to its energy efficiency solutions, more than 90% of the electricity contracts have been renewed. In a market where the utilities are billing to the users, all over the world, the equivalent amount of 1 billion euros yearly, the development potential is enormous.

Cysnergy has become the only Spanish SME in energy sector in the European Programme Horizon 2020 SME Instrument. The Environmental and Climate Change-related Research and Technology Programme, financed by the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism (EEA Grants) with 18 million euros aims to promote Enterprise Research, Development and Innovation in Spain in the climate change and renewable energy priority sectors.
