Northern funds to improve Southern air

 154. This is the number of projects –with 171 participating companies- submitted to the second open call of Environment and Climate Change Programme managed by the Centro Centre for Technical Industrial Development (CDTI)  and financed by EEA Grants. A great success and good news for Spanish environment.

The number highlights the Spanish companies huge interest for joining this programme. Its aim is to promote Research, Development and Innovation in the Climate Change, Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency and Environment sectors. In the first open call, closed on October 4, 185 proposals were submitted, and finally, 97 were approved –with 108 participating companies-, currently in development phase. The total budget was 77 million of euros, of which 11 million were contributed by Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein and 60 million in loans by CDTI. 42 of those projects were developed in association with entities from the donor countries, made possible through the collaboration of the Donor Programme Partner, Innovation Norway.

These projects range from biofuel development to mechanisms to improve water and energy efficiency in homes and industries, or the development of new engines less polluting and new materials more environmentally-friendly. And even a submarine vehicle is going to be built.

The total budget of the second open call –closed on April 10- exceed 94 million of euros and the 154 submitted projects are being reviewed in cooperation with donor countries. EEA Grants will provide more than 5 million of euros and CDTI will contribute with 27 million through loans. The projects partnerships with entities from Donor Countries are especially considered.

The main objective is to increase the number of enterprises producing innovation in the Environment and Climate Change sector in Spain, and to increase knowledge transfer from universities and research institutions to innovative enterprises in the targeted sectors. Without forgetting the general objective of strengthening bilateral relationships between Spain and the members of EEA Financial Mechanism.
